ICCI provides training for faculty, staff, and administrators in higher education who seek new ways to internationalize their campus, course, or curriculum. The institute helps participants prepare students, faculty, and staff to be effective scholars, practitioners, and citizens of the 21st century.

Teachers will learn how to teach globally through Global Literacy Invitations, an approach that integrates literacy with other curriculum areas. The Global Literacy Invitation (GLI) was created in 2016 at the Indiana University School of Education by Senior Lecturer Leana McClain. Indiana teachers have found GLIs to be a successful teaching strategy for internationalizing their elementary curriculum in a creative and meaningful way.

The participation in this project is open to educators who have expressed interest in infusing global perspectives in their teaching. The Windows to the World is a new and innovative online resource that connects classrooms to digital museum artifacts and global collections held at Indiana University. The Windows to the World site provides multimedia representations of items from around the world with detailed descriptions and additional resources to support global learning through space and time. We completed the first cycle with the first group of teachers in May 2023 and you are invited to participate in the second cycle. The length of this project is March 2nd, 2024 (first in-person event at Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields) until May 2024 (2nd in-person event on May 25th, 2024. This workshop for Indiana Career & Technical Education teachers will explore the process of internationalizing curriculum to align with K-12 Academic Standards, Employability Skills Standards, Work Based Learning Connections, and Next Level Programs of Study. Heather Singmaster (Digital Promise), Christi McBride (Hoosier Hills Career Center) and other educators will present classroom resources and strategies. Employer perspectives will be shared by a panel of local business leaders.

The Principals’ Academy on Internationalizing K-12 schools aims to fill the existing gap among practitioners about what internationalization of education at school level entails. To meet this goal, principals and central office administrators are involved in year-long professional development activities that develop the necessary knowledge and practices to internationalize schools through curriculum and pedagogy, create home-school connections by leveraging diversity from schools and communities, expand foreign language learning, and promote global learning-focused professional development of their teachers.
